Game Overview

SimLife came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Maxis. It was a time when simulation games were pushing into new, complex territory, and this one aimed straight at ecology and genetics. You weren't building cities or managing theme parks; you were handed the tools to tinker with life itself on a planetary scale.

You control the environment and the creatures within it, manipulating everything from soil chemistry to animal DNA. The main objective is to create a stable, functioning ecosystem, but the real draw is the experimentation. You edit genes directly, altering traits like speed, diet, or aggression, then release your creations to see how they interact. The pacing is slow, deliberate; you spend a lot of time watching graphs and population numbers, intervening only when a species nears extinction or dominance. It feels less like playing a game and more like conducting a very unpredictable, often disastrous, science experiment.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
