Build and manage your own skyscraper, placing offices and shops, attracting residents, and juggling emergencies in SimTower.
SimTower came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, developed by Yoot Saito. It was a different kind of simulation game for its time, one that focused on vertical construction and management instead of sprawling cityscapes or theme parks. You built upward, not outward, which felt fresh and a little claustrophobic in the best way possible.
You control the development of a massive skyscraper, placing offices, hotels, condominiums, and retail spaces floor by floor. The main objective is to attract residents and businesses, manage their needs, and grow your tower's prestige rating. Key mechanics include meticulously planning elevator routes to prevent crippling traffic jams and responding to emergencies like fires that can spiral out of control if your services are poorly placed. The pacing is slow and deliberate, demanding careful forethought, and the difficulty ramps up significantly as your population grows and your infrastructure becomes more complex. It feels like conducting a chaotic, unpredictable symphony where you're never quite sure which instrument will go out of tune next.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
