Pick Red Beard or One Eye, then duel skeletons and ninjas with careful sword swings—mess up and they’ll gut you. Dig up treasure, fight unfair bosses, and rope a friend into the chaos (but good luck sharing the controller).

Skull & Crossbones came out in 1991 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Domark Software Ltd. It was one of those early PC titles that tried to capture the feel of arcade action games, with colorful graphics and straightforward goals. You could tell it was made during a time when developers were experimenting with how to translate fast-paced, side-scrolling combat to home computers.
You control either Red Beard or One Eye, two pirates who explore levels screen by screen, fighting skeletons, ninjas, and other enemies with a simple but precise sword. The main goal is to collect treasure while surviving increasingly tricky platforming and combat. Signature mechanics include digging for hidden items in certain spots and facing off against screen-filling bosses that require pattern recognition and timing. The game moves quickly and doesn’t forgive mistakes, so you learn through repetition. It feels like a test of reflexes and memory, with each small victory earned through focus.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
