Skyfox II: The Cygnus Conflict is one of those MS-DOS games that somehow flew under the radar back in the day, which is a shame because it absolutely nails that sweet spot between arcade action and sci-fi atmosphere. You pilot this angular, futuristic fighter through low-altitude canyon runs and chaotic space battles, and even though the graphics are obviously dated now, there's something weirdly immersive about the way the terrain whips past you at breakneck speed.
The controls take a minute to adjust to—this was still the era of keyboard-only flight sims—but once it clicks, weaving between enemy fire while lining up shots feels surprisingly satisfying. The synth-heavy soundtrack is pure '80s cheese in the best possible way, like someone fused Top Gun with a forgotten sci-fi B-movie. Missions flip between bombing runs, escort duty, and all-out dogfights, so it never gets stale.
