Solitary Fighter came out in 1992, an arcade release from Arcade Studios. You control a lone martial artist moving from left to right, clearing each screen of thugs before progressing. The main goal is to fight through urban stages, defeating bosses to rescue a kidnapped character. Your fighter uses punches, kicks, and grapples; you can pick up weapons like pipes or knives dropped by enemies, and environmental objects such as barrels can be thrown. The pacing is fast, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty is punishing if you don't manage your space carefully.
