You control Sonic as he automatically runs forward through a constantly rotating, checkerboard tunnel filled with rings and bombs. The goal is to collect a certain number of rings before reaching the end of the stage, all while avoiding the bombs that will instantly eject you if touched. The primary mechanics involve using the D-pad to shift Sonic left or right across the tunnel's surface and timing jumps to navigate gaps or avoid obstacles.
