Sonic Advance 3 came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Dimps and published by THQ and Sega. It was part of that wave of portable Sonic games that tried to capture the spirit of the Genesis classics, but with its own ideas. The series had already established itself on the GBA, and this one pushed the formula a bit further.
You control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy, each paired with a partner who modifies your abilities. The main goal is still to blast through levels, defeat Robotnik, and rescue your friends. The signature mechanic is the partner system; depending on who you team up with, you gain new moves like high jumps, glides, or speed bursts that open alternate routes. Levels are designed with multiple pathways and a focus on momentum, though some later stages get pretty demanding with their precision platforming. It feels fast and experimental, especially when you find a duo that clicks.
