Play Sonic Chaos (Europe) Online
Tiny 8-bit Sonic bouncing through loops and hidden paths, with Tails’ awkward little flutter jumps and Robotnik’s goofy contraptions. The music sticks in your head way longer than you’d expect.

Sonic Chaos on the Master System was my first real Sonic game—way before I ever touched a Genesis. It’s got that classic 8-bit charm, with tiny sprites bouncing through loop-de-loops and dodging Robotnik’s weird little machines. The levels feel shorter than the Genesis ones, but they’re packed with secrets if you take the time to explore.
Playing as Tails for the first time here was a trip—he could actually fly (sort of) by flapping his tails, which made some of the platforming way easier. Sonic’s spin dash debuts in this one too, though it’s not as smooth as later games. The music’s surprisingly catchy for an 8-bit cart, especially that first zone theme.
It’s not as flashy as the 16-bit games, but there’s something cozy about how simple it is. You’ll probably blast through it in an afternoon if you’re decent at old-school platformers.
