Game Overview
If you're a Sonic fan with a GameCube lying around, Sonic Gems Collection is basically a nostalgia bomb in disc form. It rounds up some of the weirder, rarer Sonic games—stuff like Sonic CD with its time-travel gimmick and the bizarre Sonic the Fighters arcade port. There's even Sonic R, that racing game where everyone runs awkwardly like they've got a wedgie.
What makes it cool is all the extras tucked away—old Game Gear titles like Tails Adventures (which is way better than it has any right to be) and a ton of artwork and music to unlock. The selection’s a bit random—Sonic Spinball is here, for better or worse—but that’s part of the charm. You’ll spend half your time digging through the museum mode just to hear the Sonic CD soundtrack again.
It’s not the most polished collection, but good luck finding some of these games anywhere else. Just don’t expect Sonic Fighters to hold up as an actual fighting game.
