Man, Soviet is one of those MS-DOS games that just sticks with you. At first glance, it looks like another dry strategy sim—until you realize every choice actually matters. One wrong move and suddenly your economy’s in shambles, your allies are side-eyeing you, and yeah, maybe you accidentally escalated things with a certain nuclear button.
The beauty’s in the simplicity. No fancy cutscenes, just menus, numbers, and that constant low-grade panic of trying to keep everything from imploding. I remember my first playthrough ended in disaster because I got too cocky with military spending—turns out bread shortages make people very unhappy. Who knew?
It’s got that perfect balance of historical flavor and “oh crap, what do I do now?” tension. If you’re into strategy games that make you sweat a little, this one’s still weirdly gripping decades later.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
