Speculator came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Capstone Solutions. It was a straightforward business simulation from an era when many games explored niche ideas without much fanfare, relying on simple graphics and deep mechanics to hold your attention.
You control an investor starting with a set amount of money, competing against computer opponents to buy and sell properties across different market phases. The main objective is to build the largest fortune by timing purchases just before values rise and selling before inevitable crashes. Key mechanics include bidding against rivals for lots, managing cash flow carefully, and predicting price shifts based on in-game economic cycles. The pace is tense and deliberate, with each decision carrying real weight as markets turn without warning. It feels like a high-stakes gamble where every choice could lead to ruin or reward.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
