Game Overview

Spirits & Spells is one of those GBA platformers that feels like a Halloween-themed Saturday morning cartoon. You play as Alicia and Greg—two kids who accidentally stumble into the Land of the Dead after the Bogeyman turns their friends into stone statues. Naturally, they’ve got to fix that.

The cool part? You can swap between them on the fly, but it costs crystals (which you’ll find scattered around). Alicia’s your ranged attacker—throws ice spells and doesn’t take fall damage. Greg’s all about fire and has this ridiculous high jump. Sometimes you’ll hit a puzzle or obstacle that forces you to think about who to use, which keeps things interesting.

It’s pure 2D platforming—no fancy 3D like the console version—but the levels are packed with ghosts, zombies, and a seriously creepy mad scientist’s lab. The switching mechanic adds just enough strategy to keep it from feeling like another generic hop-and-bop adventure. If you’re into spooky platformers with a little twist, this one’s worth a look.
