Spirits & Spells came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, published by THQ. It was one of those side-scrolling platformers that felt right at home on the GBA, with a cartoonish look and a Halloween theme that stood out a bit from the usual fantasy or sci-fi offerings. You don't hear much about it now, but at the time it was a solid, colorful addition to the library.

You control two kids, Alicia and Greg, who you swap between on the fly. Alicia shoots ice projectiles to freeze enemies, while Greg has a higher jump and can ground-pound switches. The goal is to rescue your petrified friends by collecting pieces of a magical amulet across various themed worlds, like a haunted mansion or a spooky forest. You explore screen by screen, solving environmental puzzles that often require switching characters mid-challenge. The pacing is brisk, though some later stages get tricky with precise platforming and enemy patterns. It feels like a straightforward but clever little adventure, where swapping powers at the right moment makes all the difference.
