Play Soul Edge vs. Samurai Spirits Online

Mitsurugi and Haohmaru finally settle their beef in this chunky Genesis fighter—swords clang with that satisfying 16-bit crunch, even if some moves work better in theory than practice. Nightmare swings like a freight train while Ukyo’s slashes feel lightning-fast, just don’t expect the hitboxes to play fair.

Game Overview

Ever wanted to see Mitsurugi and Haohmaru throw down in glorious 16-bit? This fan-made Sega Genesis fighter mashes up Soul Edge and Samurai Shodown in a way that feels weirdly right—like someone dug up a lost arcade cabinet from 1995. The pixel art nails that chunky Genesis aesthetic, and the sword clashes have that satisfying thwack when they connect.

It’s janky in places (some hitboxes are more like suggestions), but that kinda adds to the charm. Nightmare’s giant sword swings like a truck, while Ukyo’s quick slashes feel razor-sharp. Half the fun is figuring out which moves actually work—I spent way too long trying to land Haohmaru’s Rasetsu stance before realizing the inputs are slightly different from the original. Still, landing that perfect counter with Siegfried’s zweihander never gets old.

Not bad for something that technically shouldn’t exist. Grab a six-button controller and prepare for some very unofficial, very entertaining blade battles.
