Spirou on the Game Boy came out in 1996 from Infogrames, a time when licensed platformers were everywhere on the handheld. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a solid, straightforward adventure based on the Belgian comic character. You control Spirou himself, moving screen by screen through urban and indoor environments. Your main goal is to rescue your friend Spip from the clutches of the villain Zantafio. You jump on platforms, avoid or defeat enemies with a basic punch, and occasionally use a slingshot for ranged attacks. The pacing is methodical, and some sections demand careful timing to avoid falling or taking hits. It feels like a compact, slightly clunky journey that captures the spirit of its source material without overcomplicating things.
