Spirou on the Game Boy Color came out in 2000 from Infogrames, right when handhelds were full of bright, cartoony platformers. It’s based on the Belgian comic series, so it has that lighthearted, adventurous look typical of the era, with big sprites and simple, expressive animations.

You control Spirou himself, a bellhop with springy red hair, as he jumps and fights through levels inspired by comic panels. The main goal is to rescue a kidnapped inventor by navigating side-scrolling stages, defeating oddball enemies with a quick swipe of your broom, and hunting for keys to unlock doors. You explore screen by screen, sometimes backtracking to use new items, and the pacing stays brisk without feeling too easy or punishing. It feels like flipping through an interactive Sunday comic strip, playful and straightforward.
