I picked up SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis for the Nintendo DS back in 2007, a game published by THQ. It was a pretty standard licensed title for the era, fitting right in with the other cartoon and movie adaptations that filled the DS library. The game follows the plot of the TV special, sending the Bikini Bottom crew on a quest to find the lost city.
You control SpongeBob and Patrick, switching between them to solve environmental puzzles. Each character has a unique ability; SpongeBob can use his bubble blow to hit switches, while Patrick's super strength lets him move heavy blocks. The main goal is to explore screen by screen, collecting musical notes to open new areas and avoiding or outsmarting enemy jellyfish and robots. The pacing is slow, with a lot of backtracking and simple, repetitive tasks that can feel drawn out. It feels like you're navigating a clunky, interactive version of the cartoon.
