I picked up SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis for the Nintendo DS back in 2007, a game published by THQ. It was a pretty standard licensed title for the era, fitting right in with the other cartoon-based platformers that filled the handheld's library. The game follows the plot of the TV special, sending the characters on a quest to the lost city.
You control SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs, switching between them to use their unique abilities for platforming and solving environmental puzzles. The main goal is to find the scattered pieces of the ancient Atlantian amulet. This involves a lot of running and jumping across themed levels, hitting switches, and collecting shiny objects like bubbles and spatulas. The pacing is straightforward, and the difficulty stays on the easier side, clearly aimed at younger fans. It feels like you're clumsily directing an interactive episode of the show.
