Game Overview

Star-blaze came out on the Amiga in 1989, a vertical-scrolling shooter from the folks at Rainbow Arts. It fit right in with the platform's growing library of action games, offering a straightforward but polished space combat experience that didn't try to reinvent the wheel.

You pilot a lone starfighter through eight distinct sectors of enemy territory, moving upward as you blast waves of alien ships and structures. Your main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the large boss waiting at the end. Key mechanics include collecting power-ups that change your weapon, like spread shots, lasers, or homing missiles, and a two-player cooperative mode that lets a friend join the fight. The pacing is relentless, with the difficulty scaling noticeably as you push further into enemy lines. It feels tense and demanding, especially when dodging dense patterns of enemy fire in the later sectors.
