Play Star Control on Msdos Online
Dodge plasma shots in chaotic 1v1 space battles where every alien ship handles differently—then switch to a slow-burn strategy map to conquer star systems. The Ur-Quan’s swarm fighters and Mmrnmhrm’s transforming ship still feel fresh decades later.

Star Control on MS-DOS is basically two games in one: a chaotic space dogfight mode and a slower, strategic conquest thing. The combat feels like an upgraded version of Spacewar!—ships bounce off screen edges, weapons feel wildly unbalanced (in a fun way), and every alien race’s ship handles completely differently. The Ur-Quan Dreadnought’s fighters are obnoxious in the best way, and the Mmrnmhrm Transformer’s whole shape-shifting gimmick still feels clever decades later.
No deep story here—just two factions duking it out—but the strategy layer adds some weight to all the ship battles. You can tweak the AI’s aggression, which is nice because some of those ships are brutal even on "medium." Honestly, half the fun is just discovering how each weird alien vessel works (or doesn’t).
It’s janky by modern standards, but there’s something charming about how unpredictable the fights get.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
