Play Star Control on Msdos Online
Explore the galaxy, command your fleet, engage in space battles, gather resources, and form alliances in Star Control on MS-DOS.
Star Control came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, developed by Toys for Bob and published by Accolade. It was one of those games that felt ambitious for its time, blending genres in a way that wasn't common on the platform. You got a mix of space combat and strategy wrapped in a quirky, colorful sci-fi universe that stood out among other releases.
You command a fleet of ships representing Earth, exploring a vast star map and engaging in one-on-one combat with various alien races. The main goal is to gather resources, form alliances, and ultimately defeat the oppressive Ur-Quan hierarchy. Signature mechanics include real-time ship battles where each vessel has unique weapons and handling, along with a strategic overworld where you manage planets and navigate diplomatic encounters. The pacing shifts between frantic dogfights and slower resource management, with a difficulty that escalates as you provoke stronger foes. It feels like balancing on a knife's edge between careful planning and chaotic improvisation.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
