Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the Nintendo DS came out in 2008 from LucasArts, a time when developers were still figuring out how to make dual-screen action feel right. It was a companion piece to the bigger console versions, built for a handheld audience that wanted some of that Force power in their pocket.
You control Darth Vader's secret apprentice, Starkiller, and your main goal is to hunt down Jedi while secretly building your own rebellion. The top screen shows the action while the bottom handles lightsaber slashes with the stylus and Force powers like lightning or push with button combos. You explore levels screen by screen, clearing rooms of stormtroopers and droids, with some light platforming and environmental puzzles that require specific powers to pass. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike during boss fights, but pulling off a perfect combo of Force throws and saber strikes makes you feel terrifyingly powerful.
