Game Overview
StarMines is one of those MS-DOS games that somehow makes blowing yourself up in space weirdly satisfying. You start with this grid of innocent-looking tiles, but half of them hide mines—step wrong, and suddenly your little pixel ship is toast. The trick is flagging the safe path while the timer ticks down, and yeah, you will panic when you realize you’ve boxed yourself into a corner.
It’s got that classic Minesweeper tension, but with a retro sci-fi vibe—think chunky CRT graphics and synth sound effects that somehow make every explosion feel dramatic. I lost way too many lunch breaks to this thing back in the day. The controls are dead simple (arrow keys and spacebar), but good luck putting it down once you start.
Fair warning: the later levels get brutal. You’ll swear the mines move when you’re not looking.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
