Accolade released Steel Thunder in 1988 as part of their MS-DOS Classic Games series. It was a tank combat game that fit right in with the era's focus on straightforward, challenging action, demanding more from players than just quick reflexes.

You command a lone tank, navigating a top-down battlefield to destroy all enemy units and survive. The game uses screen-by-screen progression, locking you into a small area until you clear every hostile vehicle. Key mechanics include using terrain like hills for cover, angling your shots to ricochet off rocks and hit enemies behind obstacles, and managing a limited supply of special armor-piercing shells for tougher targets. The pacing is tense and deliberate; rushing ahead almost always ends in a quick explosion. It feels like a careful game of chess played with high explosives, where every move needs to be calculated.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
