Street Fighter Alpha 2 is one of those arcade fighters that just feels right—the kind where you can tell Capcom had hit their stride. The sprites are chunky and expressive, the special moves have that perfect snap to them, and the roster mixes classics like Ryu and Ken with wildcards like Rolento (who fights with a damn stick).
What I love about this version is how it balances speed and strategy. You can chain combos like crazy, but there’s also the Alpha Counter system where timing a block just right flips the momentum. First time I pulled one off against a friend’s fireball spam, it felt like cheating (in the best way).
It’s still got that arcade quarter-muncher energy—CPU opponents don’t hold back—but that’s part of the charm. Just expect to lose a few rounds before you figure out how to counter Sodom’s obnoxious sword swings.
