Street Fighter Alpha Zero 97 is a weird little NES bootleg fighter that somehow tries to cram Alpha-style gameplay into an 8-bit shell. The sprites are chunky, the animations stiff, and half the special moves don’t work right—but there’s something oddly charming about it.

You pick from a handful of fighters, each with their own janky version of a fireball or dragon punch. The inputs are finicky, combos barely exist, and the AI either stands there or suddenly wrecks you. Still, seeing Ryu and Ken in this form feels like stumbling onto some lost arcade prototype.

It’s not good, exactly, but Street Fighter Alpha Zero 97 has that bootleg energy where you can’t look away from how strange it is.
