Game Overview

I picked up Street Fighter Alpha Zero 97 for the NES around 1997, a bootleg cartridge that showed up in some markets, especially in regions like Brazil and parts of Asia. It wasn't an official Capcom release, but rather an unlicensed effort to bring a version of the Alpha series to the 8-bit console. The NES was well past its prime by then, but these kinds of homemade ports kept the system alive for players who couldn't access newer hardware.

You control one of several fighters, including Ryu and Ken, through one-on-one battles against a series of opponents. The main goal is to defeat each character in sequence until you face the final boss. The game incorporates special moves executed with directional inputs and button combinations, a super combo meter that builds as you fight, and character-specific super moves. Matches are fast and often unbalanced, with stiff controls and inconsistent hit detection. It feels rough and unfinished, but there's a strange charm in seeing these characters squeezed onto the aging hardware.
