Game Overview

Strider Returns: Journey from Darkness came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Tiertex Design Studios. It was one of the many side-scrolling action games of that era, though it never quite captured the energy of its predecessor. The game tried to build on the Strider name, but it felt more like a budget title than a flagship release.

You control a ninja named Strider Hiryu, moving through a series of platforming stages while fighting enemies with your plasma sword. Your main goal is to defeat a series of bosses across different levels, from industrial complexes to alien environments. The game uses a screen-by-screen progression system, forcing you to clear each area before moving on, and includes some light exploration for power-ups. Combat feels slow and imprecise, and the difficulty ramps up sharply in later stages. Playing it feels like a chore, with sluggish controls and frustrating enemy placements that drain the fun out of the experience.
