Game Overview

Capcom released Strider for the Sega Genesis in 1990, a time when action games were pushing hardware limits with speed and detailed sprites. It stood out immediately with its fluid animation and large, colorful stages that scrolled in multiple directions. The game felt ambitious, like it was testing what the console could really handle.

You control Hiryu, a high-tech ninja armed with a plasma sword called the Cypher. Your goal is to infiltrate the fortress of Grandmaster Meio and dismantle his robotic army. The gameplay is built on fast, acrobatic movement; you run, slide, and climb across walls and ceilings while cutting down enemies. Combat is swift and decisive, with the sword able to strike in an arc or be thrown as a projectile. The levels are large and multi-path, encouraging exploration while throwing relentless enemies and screen-filling bosses your way. It’s challenging but fair, and the constant forward momentum makes every moment feel urgent. Playing Strigin feels like being in control of a whirlwind.
