Game Overview

Strider came out on the NES in 1989, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of that wave of late 80s action games that really pushed the hardware, with big, detailed sprites and a lot of fast movement on screen. You could tell they were trying to capture the feel of the arcade original, even if the home version had to take its own path.

You control Hiryu, a ninja operative armed with a plasma sword called the Cypher. Your mission is to infiltrate the fortress of the Grandmaster and stop his world domination plot. The game moves screen by screen, with you slashing through robotic soldiers, panthers, and other hazards. Your sword can be upgraded to shoot projectiles or create a defensive field, which is essential for survival. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is high, demanding precise jumps and quick reflexes. It feels like a constant, tense scramble through a hostile future.
