Game Overview

Strider on the Amiga came out in 1989, published by U.S. Gold. It was a time when the platform was full of ambitious arcade ports, and this one tried to bring Capcom's fast-paced action home. You could tell it aimed high, even if the hardware sometimes struggled to keep up.

You control Hiryu, a nimble assassin armed with a glowing plasma sword that cuts through enemies in wide arcs. Your goal is to fight through five distinct levels, from a snowy Siberian fortress to a futuristic airborne carrier, to eventually take down the grandmaster. Key mechanics include fluid climbing and acrobatic flips to navigate platforms, combined with screen-by-screen combat against waves of robotic soldiers and larger mechanized beasts. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is punishing; you die quickly if you misjudge a jump or fail to clear a path. Playing it feels like a constant, exhilarating scramble for survival.
