Game Overview
Super Mario 2 is weird in the best way—it doesn’t play like any other Mario game. Instead of stomping goombas, you’re pulling vegetables out of the ground and tossing them at enemies. The first time I played, I remember thinking, "Wait, why am I not jumping on things?"
Subcon’s dreamlike world feels offbeat, with floating doors and enemies that look like they belong in a different game entirely. The four characters—Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad—actually play differently, which was a surprise. Luigi’s floaty jumps saved me more times than I’d like to admit.
It’s not perfect—some levels drag, and the bosses can feel repetitive. But Super Mario 2 has this strange charm that makes it stand out, even decades later.
