Super Mario Advance 4 (Eurasia) (J) is one of those GBA ports that feels familiar but still has its own quirks. The first few levels are classic Mario—running, jumping, stomting goombas—but the physics feel just slightly different from the SNES version, like the jumps are a tiny bit floatier.
I remember getting stuck on one of the later ghost house levels where the doors kept looping me back. Took me way too long to realize I had to ignore the obvious path and take a hidden route instead. The e-reader levels, if you can access them, add some weird but fun twists, like playing as Luigi with his weird high jumps.
It's still Mario at its core, just with that handheld feel where everything's a little smaller, a little crunchier. The music sounds tinny but nostalgic now.
