Super Mario Bros (FDS Hack) (J) is the same classic NES platformer you remember, but with a few tweaks—some subtle, some weird. The physics feel slightly off, like Mario’s jumps are just a little floatier than they should be. The level layouts are mostly familiar, but there are moments where you’ll swear a pit wasn’t there before, or a block is missing where you expected it.

It’s still the same run-and-jump gameplay, but the changes make it feel like playing through a slightly warped memory of the original. Sometimes that’s fun, sometimes it’s frustrating when muscle memory betrays you. If you’ve played the original to death, this hack at least keeps you guessing.

Not sure if it’s better or worse—just different. And that’s kind of the point.
