Super Mario Bros (JU) (PRG 0) (J) is one of those games that feels simple at first—just running, jumping, and stomping on Goombas—but the more you play, the tighter the controls feel. That first time you misjudge a jump and fall into a pit sticks with you.

The levels start straightforward, but by world 3, the layouts get trickier, with hidden blocks and pipes leading to secret areas. The music is burned into my brain, especially the underground theme when you drop down a pipe.

It’s not perfect—some jumps feel just a pixel off, and the lack of a save feature means starting over if you run out of lives. But there’s something satisfying about finally nailing that last jump in 8-4 after so many tries.
