Super Mario Bros (JU) is one of those games that feels simple at first—just running and jumping—but gets surprisingly deep once you start nailing the timing. The first few levels ease you in, but by world 3, you realize how precise those jumps need to be, especially with those hammer bros lurking around.

The controls are tight, though. You can feel the difference between a full sprint and a careful hop, and that matters when you're trying to land on a goomba without slipping into a pit. The music sticks in your head too, in a good way—it’s hard not to hum along after a while.

Some of the later levels get brutal if you’re not paying attention, but that’s part of the charm. Super Mario Bros (JU) doesn’t hold your hand, and beating it still feels like an accomplishment.
