Game Overview

Super Mario Bros (PC10) is one of those games that feels simple at first—just running, jumping, and squashing goombas—but gets surprisingly tricky once you hit the later levels. The controls are tight, though, so when you mess up, it's usually on you.

I remember the first time I made it to world 8-1, thinking I was hot stuff, only to get wrecked by those hammer bros. The pacing is great—you start with wide-open levels, then suddenly you're dodging firebars and bullet bills in tight spaces.

It's still fun to replay, even if the graphics are basic by today's standards. Super Mario Bros (PC10) holds up because the gameplay is just that solid.
