Super Mario World came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the games that really showed what the SNES could do, with its bright colors and smooth scrolling. You control Mario, or Luigi if you have a second player, running and jumping through a series of interconnected levels on a large overworld map. The main goal is to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, which means working your way through seven different worlds, each with their own castles and fortresses. Key mechanics include finding multiple exits in many levels to unlock secret paths on the map, and riding Yoshi, who can eat enemies and, with the right colored shell, gain temporary abilities like spitting fire or flying. The pacing is generally brisk, though some of the secret areas and Star Road can get quite challenging. It feels responsive and inventive, with a sense of discovery that makes even repeated playthroughs engaging.
