Super Metroid Vino is one of those mods that shouldn’t work but somehow does—like someone took the moody sci-fi of the original and ran it through a gothic Italian winery filter. You’ve still got all the tense exploration and satisfying upgrades (though now you’re blasting enemies with grape clusters instead of missiles), but the usual alien caves are replaced by sprawling vineyards and shadowy wine cellars. It’s ridiculous in the best way.

The controls feel just as tight as the original, and stumbling into a new area only to realize you need some cork-themed power-up to progress is weirdly delightful. Even the music gets a remix—still haunting, but with this faint clinking of glasses in the background. If you’ve played Super Metroid to death, this is the perfect excuse to dive back in with fresh eyes (and a full glass).
