Game Overview

Super Puyo Puyo came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, developed by Compile. It was part of that wave of puzzle games that really defined the SNES library, sitting alongside titles like Tetris Attack and Dr. Mario, but with its own distinct personality and a much quirkier presentation.

You control falling pairs of colored blobs, rotating and placing them to form groups of four or more of the same color. The main goal is to clear your screen while sending nuisance puyo to your opponent's side. The signature mechanics involve setting up chain reactions; by carefully stacking puyo, you trigger cascading clears that dump huge amounts of garbage on the other player. Matches start slow but quickly escalate as both sides build toward massive combos. It feels frantic and satisfying when your plan comes together, and utterly devastating when your opponent's chain goes off first.
