Super Empire Strikes Back is one of those SNES games that really nails the Star Wars vibe—even if it kicks your butt a little. You jump between playing as Luke, Han, and Leia across Hoth, Dagobah, and Cloud City, blasting stormtroopers and dodging probe droids. The sprite work still holds up, especially the AT-AT walkers lumbering in the background.
It’s not just a straight platformer, though. There’s some light puzzle-solving (figuring out how to take down those walkers without getting stomped) and even a few vehicle sections where you’re speeding through Hoth on a snowspeeder. The music? Classic John Williams tunes, but chiptune—somehow both nostalgic and hype at the same time.
Fair warning: it’s tough. Like, "throw-your-controller" tough in spots. But if you grew up with the movie or just love retro challenges, it’s a blast. The Beta version has some quirks, but honestly, that just adds to the charm.
