Super Troll Islands came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Kemco. It was one of those platformers that showed up in the middle of the console's life, trying to carve out a space with a quirky fantasy setting. You control a troll tasked with clearing evil mist from a series of floating islands. The main goal is to explore each screen based level, defeat enemies with your basic attacks, and collect pieces of a magical medallion to progress. Signature mechanics include a somewhat floaty double jump for navigating gaps and a life system where you can find and rescue fellow trolls to gain extra continues. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can feel uneven due to occasionally slippery controls. Playing it feels like navigating a strange, slightly off kilter dream where every jump requires a bit of faith.
