SWAT is a 1986 arcade game developed by Toaplan. It arrived during a period when arcade cabinets were filled with straightforward action titles, and it offered a unique take on the underwater combat genre without trying to reinvent the wheel.
You control a small diver on a hoverboard, tasked with protecting your base from an alien threat. Your main objective is to destroy enemy structures before they can complete tunnels leading to your headquarters. Signature mechanics include attaching timed torpedoes to alien constructions and physically shoving incomplete tunnels out of alignment. The game moves at a brisk pace, demanding quick decisions as enemies swarm and retaliate. It feels like a tense, chaotic race against an ever growing invasion.
