Game Overview

System Shock came out in 1994 for MS-DOS, developed by Looking Glass Technologies. It was one of those games that felt ahead of its time, blending first-person action with deep simulation elements on a platform known for simpler shooters and adventures. You played it on a chunky CRT monitor, probably with a keyboard and no mouse look, and it demanded your full attention from the start.

You control a hacker trying to survive aboard Citadel Station, which has been overrun by a malevolent AI named SHODAN. Your goal is to stop her plans while navigating maze-like decks filled with mutants and robots. Key mechanics include real-time combat with a variety of weapons, environmental hacking to bypass security or access new areas, and managing an inventory of tools and cyber upgrades. The pacing is deliberate, often tense; you explore methodically, conserve resources, and die frequently if you rush. It feels like being trapped in a hostile, interactive world where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
