Play Syvalion (Japan) Online
Navigate tight corridors as a serpentine dragon, destroy enemies, collect power-ups to grow longer, and avoid crashes in this intense arcade-style shooter from 1992.
Syvalion came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed and published by Taito. It was one of those games that felt a bit out of place on the system, not quite fitting the usual platformer or RPG mold that dominated the library at the time. It had a distinct arcade feel, a remnant of its earlier cabinet release, and it demanded a different kind of focus from players.
You control a long, serpentine dragon made of segments, flying through narrow, maze-like corridors. Your main goal is to survive each stage, destroying every enemy while carefully navigating the tight passages. The key mechanics involve your dragon's body; it grows longer as you collect power-ups, but if you crash into a wall or an enemy, you lose a life. You also have a limited-use screen-clearing bomb for emergencies. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, punishing even the smallest misjudgment in movement. It feels like a constant, tense dance between aggression and self-preservation.
