Syvalion came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed and published by Taito. It was one of those games that felt a bit different from the usual platformers and RPGs that dominated the system at the time, offering a more methodical, almost puzzle-like approach to the shoot 'em up genre.

You control a long, multi-segmented dragon ship that moves with a sort of slithering motion across the screen. Your main goal is to navigate through each stage, destroying enemies and obstacles with your fire breath while carefully managing a limited fuel supply. Every attack you make consumes fuel, so you constantly have to balance aggression with conservation, often darting toward fuel pickups in the middle of a fight. The dragon's body is made of connected segments, and taking damage causes you to lose them one by one, which makes avoiding enemy fire absolutely critical. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, as you weave through narrow passages and time your attacks to avoid wasting precious resources. It feels like a constant, high-stakes balancing act between firepower and survival.
