Tales Of Phantasia (EU) on GBA is an odd mix of old and new. The combat feels sluggish compared to the PlayStation version, but you still get the same satisfying real-time battles where you mash buttons to chain attacks. The sprites and voices are mostly lifted from the PS1 remake, though the intro song is the SNES version, which feels a little out of place.
I remember getting stuck early on because the run button is disabled in combat, and the pacing just drags at times. The new Arche mini-campaign is a fun distraction after finishing the main story, but some of the cut content, like the animated cutscenes, is sorely missed. It's still Tales Of Phantasia, just with some rough edges.
