Team Yankee came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, developed by Ozark Softscape. It was one of those games that tried to push what you could do with strategy on a PC back then, focusing on Cold War tank combat without a lot of the flash you see in later titles. It fit right in with the kind of serious, simulation-heavy games that were popular on the platform at the time.
You control a platoon of NATO tanks, usually American M1 Abrams, and your job is to complete missions by destroying enemy units and seizing objectives on a large, scrolling map. The signature mechanics involve managing your tanks' movement and facing, using terrain like hills and forests for cover, and trying to get side or rear shots on Soviet armor for quicker kills. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty is high; one wrong move can get your entire unit wiped out by hidden anti-tank missiles or enemy tanks you didn't spot. It feels tense and demanding, like every decision really matters.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
