Game Overview
Team Yankee is one of those late '80s military sims that somehow makes managing a tank battalion feel both overwhelming and weirdly satisfying. You start off with a handful of M1 Abrams and Bradleys, trying not to get blown to bits by Soviet T-72s—which, by the way, happens a lot if you charge in blindly. The controls take a minute to get used to (this is MS-DOS, after all), but once you figure out how to position your units in that chunky 3D terrain, it clicks.
What’s cool is how the game mixes strategy with real-time movement—you’re not just moving icons on a map, you’re watching your tanks crawl through forests or get ambushed from behind a hill. The sprites are basic by today’s standards, but back then, seeing a T-62 explode in pixelated flames felt pretty intense. Just don’t expect Doom-level action—this is more about patience and picking your battles.
Fun fact: There were sequels, but honestly, none of them quite nailed the same balance of chaos and control. If you’re into retro war games, this one’s a solid time capsule.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
