Game Overview

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles came out on the NES in 1989, developed by Konami. It was one of the early licensed games that tried to capture the spirit of the cartoon, and it stood out on a system filled with platformers and action titles. You get to pick from all four turtles, each with their own weapon, which was a big deal at the time.

You control one turtle at a time, moving through side-scrolling levels and an overworld map, fighting Foot Clan enemies and navigating environmental hazards. The main goal is to rescue April O'Neil and Splinter, then take down Shredder. Key mechanics include switching between turtles on the fly (since each has a unique health bar) and managing a limited supply of special attacks. The game is known for its high difficulty, especially in later stages filled with cheap hits and maze-like areas. It feels tense and sometimes unfair, but beating a tough section gives a real sense of accomplishment.
