If you grew up watching Tenchi Muyou! and wished you could jump into its weird, wonderful world, this SNES game is basically that dream come true. You start off as Tenchi, swinging your sword at random goons, but before long you're piloting spaceships and dealing with Ryoko's usual chaos—it’s like playing through a lost episode of the show.

The combat’s a little janky by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about the way Mihoshi’s gun just plinks enemies into oblivion. And the dialogue choices? They actually matter, which was rare for a ‘90s anime game. One minute you’re picking between Ayeka’s snooty comebacks, the next you’re in a full-blown space battle with Washu yelling tech jargon at you.

It’s not perfect—some of the platforming will make you groan—but the pixel art pops, the music’s straight out of the anime, and the whole thing oozes charm. If you’ve got nostalgia for Tenchi’s gang, this is way better than it had any right to be.
