Game Overview

Tennis for the Atari 2600 is one of those games that shouldn’t work as well as it does. You’ve got a blocky paddle, a square "ball," and a net that’s basically just a dotted line—yet somehow, it’s weirdly gripping. The first time you play, you’ll probably whiff a few shots because the timing’s trickier than it looks. But once you get the hang of it, those back-and-forth rallies start feeling like an actual match.

Playing against a friend is where it really shines. There’s something about the simplicity that makes every point tense—no fancy spin mechanics or power shots, just you, your reflexes, and whoever’s on the other side of the screen. And yeah, the AI opponent is basic, but back in the day, that was the closest thing to a tennis pro you could face.

It’s not deep, but that’s the point. This is pure, stripped-down arcade fun—the kind of game you can pick up in seconds but still come back to years later. If you’ve ever wanted to see where sports games started, this is it.
