Play The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall Online

You wake up in a massive world where nobody tells you what to do—you’ll pick a fight with a guard, get lost in a dungeon for hours, or accidentally join a cult before remembering you had a quest. Swing your sword like it’s 1996 and watch those pixelated vampires crumble.

Game Overview

I first played The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall back in 1996, when Bethesda Softworks released it for MS-DOS. It was a huge game for its time, with a sprawling world that felt almost impossibly large compared to other RPGs of the era. You could easily lose yourself just wandering between towns or exploring the wilderness, and the sense of scale was something few games had attempted before.

You control a custom character, starting with little more than a vague directive from the emperor, and your main goal involves unraveling a political and supernatural mystery. The game is known for its deep character creation, its complex spell and skill systems, and its labyrinthine, procedurally generated dungeons that can take hours to fully navigate. The pacing is slow, and the difficulty is unforgiving; you might spend an entire session just trying to find one specific NPC in a city, or get hopelessly lost in a cave with no map to guide you. Playing Daggerfall feels like being set adrift in a world that doesn't care whether you succeed or fail.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
