You roll a janky, lovable character and get tossed into a world so big you'll get lost just walking between towns—then spend hours messing with broken spell combos or getting cursed by vampires in copy-paste dungeons. Swinging your sword by dragging the mouse somehow never gets old.

Game Overview

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall came out in 1996 for MS-DOS as part of the Classic Games lineup, developed by Bethesda Softworks. It was a huge, ambitious RPG for its time, pushing the limits of what a computer could generate with its sprawling, procedurally created world. You got a sense of scale just from the map, knowing most of it was there to be walked across, not just for show.

You control a custom hero, starting from a prison cell, and your main goal involves unraveling a political and supernatural mystery for the Emperor. The game is built on dungeon delving, real time first person combat where you swing your weapon by moving the mouse, and a deep character system with skills that improve through use. The pacing is slow, often interrupted by difficult, maze like dungeons that demand patience and mapping. It feels like being a tiny, fragile person in a world that is indifferent to your existence, where every small victory is genuinely earned.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
